Kristine wanted to teach her daughter, Alice, the importance of giving back to their community. Seeking out an opportunity to serve a local school, Kristine contacted Communities In Schools and offered to help stuff backpacks for a school supply drive. Together, the mother and daughter team sorted over 30 boxes of donated supplies and delivered 700 school supply backpacks to area schools. “I like volunteering because I like to help other kids,” says Alice. “It makes me realize that no one is too young to make a difference.”

March of Gladness Walk-a-thon

Coming up soon is our district wide March Gladness project: the March of Gladness Walk-a-thon.

All junior high and high school students are welcome to participate in this event that benefits both Haiti relief efforts and local charities.

The Basics:

Date: Saturday, March 20th

Time: 10AM - 2PM

Location: Sparks Stadium

What to bring to participate:

-$10 registration fee and optional pledges (half goes to UNICEF, half  to Communities In Schools of Puyallup)

      -Signed permission slip

      -Signed photo release

-Any and all canned food donations

* Students CANNOT participate if all forms are not signed on the day of the event *

Here is the plan:

The event will be the same day, Saturday March 20th at Sparks Stadium. It will run from 10AM- 2PM, and will be open to all junior high and high school students. Instead of creating teams, gathering pledges and keeping track of laps walked, we're going to ask for a ten dollar flat fee (half goes to UNICEF, half goes to Communities In Schools of Puyallup), and a signed permission slip and photo waiver to participate. In addition to the registration fee, students are more than welcome to bring additional pledges if they like. We will also be conducting a canned food drive to benefit FISH food bank.

We want this to be a very accessible, fun way for our students to contribute to the ongoing Haiti relief effort, and to give back to some of our local charities as well. Students can bring Frisbees, walk around the track, and just enjoy themselves for a few hours. (With ample adult supervision of course)

And in the spirit of competition, we will be awarding a prize to the school that brings in the most participants, so, rep your school!

Below are both forms that must be printed out and signed by a parent or legal guardian on the day of the event.
