Leadership changes within a nonprofit are often bittersweet, offering an opportunity to reflect on past accomplishments while looking forward to new endeavors. Our Executive Director, Jan Mauk, a CIS of Puyallup employee of 17 years, has retired, effective February 25. During Jan’s time at our helm, she expanded our Site Coordinator program to seven campuses and developed the organization into a prominent community fixture. Jan’s spirit, fortitude, and kindness will be missed, but we congratulate her for her accomplishments and wish her well during this new life chapter.
As we bid a bittersweet farewell to Jan, we are thrilled to announce Tara Harkness as our new executive director. Tara joins CIS of Puyallup from the YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap counties, where she served as the executive director. Tara brings more than 14 years of nonprofit work focusing on youth development to our organization, along with her passion for ensuring all students have access to a transformational experience. We are eager to see where Tara takes CIS of Puyallup and witness her impact on our community. Please join us in welcoming Tara to the Communities In Schools family!
“I am honored to join the Community In Schools of Puyallup team. Every day, I learn something new about the positive impact we have and it’s beyond inspiring,” Tara said. “The Board and Team are full of leaders who care deeply about advancing the mission and touching as many lives as possible. It’s humbling to be a part of an organization with such a depth of community support. I look forward to the future and what’s to come for CIS of Puyallup.”
