Every year, barriers prevent groups of students from having the school supplies they need to start the school year strong. To meet this challenge, Communities In Schools of Puyallup partners with Red Canoe Credit Union and numerous other local businesses and organizations to coordinate a city-wide school supply drive. Throughout August, we collect, divide, and distribute school supplies and backpacks to all 33 schools in the Puyallup School District on the basis of need. In addition, Red Canoe Credit Union matches all supplies dollar-for-pound through its “Fill the Canoe” initiative.
We had over 6,000 pounds of school supplies donated in 2019. Thanks to the generosity of all of our community members and partnering organizations. This outpouring of support helps to ensure that every student in Puyallup has the supplies they need to succeed in school.
Please note that we accept donations of school supplies year-round. If you are interested in making a donation to a child in need, please contact Jan Mauk or you may also drop off or mail supplies directly to our office in the Puyallup School District’s Educational Services Center at 302 Second Street SE, Puyallup, WA 98372.
